IAC problem

My car is throwing The IAC code and I have replaced the sensor twice and had it re-wired. It also has an unusally high idle(1100)Has anyone had this problem? Will it effect my performance any?

Often times, a high idle is a result of unmetered air being allowed to enter after the MAF. Maybe an air leak at the throttle body gasket? If that was the case, your IAC would not be able to correct the idle, setting a code.

I'm also curious about the "re-wired" comment. Did the original harness get damaged? If so, perhaps the wiring was damaged in another spot that wasn't repaired.

What is the exact code you are getting? The only ones I am familiar with are P1506 - Low RPM, and P1509 - High RPM. Those codes are set because the idle speed is incorrect. NOT because the IAC valve is faulty (its an "actuator".... not a "sensor"). While a faulty IAC could cause the idle speed to be incorrect, it isn't necessarily the cause o0f the problem.

You have an excessively high idle RPM. The engine is getting air from somewhere other than the IAC valve, to allow it to idle at high speed. Could be a vacuum leak as noted above. Could be the throttle return stop screw being out to far, preventing the throttle blades from closing. Could be the blades are sticking and not closing all the way.
