Iac

I was having some issues with my idle, so i decided to take a look at the IAC. I took it out and it was caked with carbon and soot. So i cleaned the whole thing and moved the plunger in and out and put it back in. Went the leave this morining and the car wont idle at all starts up drops to like 200 or somthing then shoots up then right back down then back up and so on.
YOu think i might have broken the IAC or somthing!?

you may have broke the iac. what i would do i take it back off and make sure it looks ok and everything is installed properly. i know it is kind of a pain to take it back off but it looks like you have no choice. you could either try to clean and inspect it or just get a new one. my car idled weird for a few seconds after i cleaned mine out. did you try to drive it around to see if it went away? if the bad idle does not go away after inspecting things you will probally just have to get a new one.

On an old IAC, you are not really supposed to plunge the pintle in or out. It can ruin it. If it is really ok, you probably just got it out of adjustment if the pintle was not returned to the same position it was when you pulled it out.

You can try the following to reset it. Sometimes it works.

IAC reset

-Depress accelerator slightly

-Start engine, then release accelerator pedal, run engine for 5 seconds

-Turn ignition "OFF" for ten seconds

-Restart engine and check for proper idle operation
