I want to switch to RAM-AIR....

I currently have a moroso cold air intake, which I am going to sell. My question is, what is more beneficial between the ls1 lid style intake system, the ls1 style ram air system, or the lt1 style ram air system? Or possibly even my cold air intake? I am asking because i will be upgrading to a ram air hood very soon. I just want to know what the best way is to go with induction systems.

The LS1 RA and LT1 RA are almost the same setup, and either with a modified hood are going to be the least restrictive of the bunch.

The least restrictive would be a WS6 ram air. Because it actually is ram air and it is pretty staight to the TB. So i guess the LS1 lid on the Z28 would be the 2nd least restrictive. People on this board have modified their cars to accept the LS1 lid on an LT1. So you could do some SEARCHING to find out more.

IF the ram air setup is the most effective, i'll just go with it. i just heard that the lid was even better than the ram air. after all, ram air only works when you're moving.

from what i have gathered with many posts on this debate is that the differences between CAI and RA are so small that it really doesnt make that much of a difference.

Well, to a point you are correct, the price Vs gains are not there, but if he's doing a hood already adding the RA box isn't a big issue.

I think some of you are getting confused between the SS RA and WS6 RA setups as well in regards to gains between a CAI and the RA.

The WS6 RA setup is the best hands-down intake you can get for the 4th gen Firebirds (Ultra z RA for the Z's). It's a straight short intake without any bends or constrictions as in a stock intake or CAI.

But as for the RA effect that you all love to bash and tear apart, the effects of "Ramming" the air in are minimal, but overall the WS6 intake is the best CAI you can get.

From what I understand, the Ram Air setup is pretty pricy for just the airbox if I'm not mistaken. I'll have to dig up the link somewhere

Re: I want to switch to RAM-AIR....

So are you guys saying that the ram air system for an LS1 will work with an LT1?

I wasn't sure but thought the MAF or possibly even the thrttle body was a different size resulting in the tubes being the wrong sizes.

I am doing the same thing and it will be easier to shop for the system if I can look for LT1 or LS1.
