I had the GM 847 cam, which ran 11.09 at 122.7 in an 11.3/1 compression carbureted 383 with AFR 210's.

While I certainly can't knock the performance of the 847 cam, its ramp rates are slow compared to the Extreme 230/236 cam. However, the 847 does have more duration, so they would probably make about the same power, but the Extreme would make more low-end.

As far as lift goes, run as much as you can stand. Just make sure the retainer doesn't hit the valve seal and the valve springs don't coil bind - which maybe more difficult than it sounds. I'm using an Extreme 224/236 with high lift lobes for .605"/.593" lift.

Also, it's very important to run ~140 lb seat pressure with an Extreme cam.

Sup man. Obviously you don't care about emissions because your going with the LT's. The 230/236 and the Gm 847 are both pretty big cams. They are okay on stock heads but not that great. You are more and likely gonna be haveing tuning issues. I'm not sure if the shops are aloud to tune emissions illegal cars now with the new smog laws. I'm sure you could find somebody to do it either way but it could be a headache. Another thing you have to consider is you car is gonna be very loud with your setup. LT's and the Loudmouth exhaust. You car will be really lopey with those to cams. If a cop pulls up next to you unless he is a complete moron he will be able to tell you car is cammed. If he is in a bad mood he will pull you over and look at your car. You will get fined pretty heavily. Just something you should think about before you order one of those bigger cams.

I'm gonna be ordering my headers(as&m single cat conversion) in the next month and my cam close behind that. I will still have 1 cat so if a cop does look under my car he won't know that it is supposed to have 2 cats and won't really say anything about it. The cam i'm going with is the 224/230xe on a 114 lsa. That is a very good cam that people are seeing good #'s with. Most have it on a 112 lsa but i'm going with the 114 to keep the lope down. It will also have more power down low then compared to the same cam on a 112 lsa.

GL with you choice i just wanted to give you something else to think about. The other people don't know how the cops are around here. They can be real a$$holes sometimes.

cool thanks drew for looking out. . . im not worried about smog . . but the cops are a$$holes out here ,,but imma keep my fingers crossed that i dont run in to one at a stop light . . .i dont drive my maro much i try to baby her . . ive owned my car for little over 2 years and i only put 10.000 miles on it , , ,im going to buy me a lil bucket to ride around in . . .o yea i dont know much about cams . . whats a 140 lb seat pressure??

Yeah i need to get myself a beater too. I hate putting all these miles on my car driving to vallejo everyday. I put 10,000 on the car since i bought it 6 months ago. I'm about to hit 60,000. It hurts. As for the seat pressure i can't help you out there. I don't know that much about cams either. Let me know when you get you parts installed. I wanna here and see your car.
