I NEED A CAAAAAAAM lol

Ok people I know every body ask for cam help so I’m sorry I just need some other opinions...
I’m in the process of getting a rebuild... and well I was told what ever I buy he will install for free!!
My budget is not all that crazy so I thought I would get Cam and I was looking at the hot cam kit from summit racing
(http://store.summitracing.com/partde...2&autoview=sku)
But I keep hearing about a comp cam 306?
Before you answer it let me tell you what I have and what I’m looking for. . .

I need a cam that will work with my stock heads, I’m not too crazy about the loping sound but don’t mind it if it’s for some good HP gain. This car is a daily driver... that I love to take on the road for long trips. But there is nothing like smashing the car net to me lol

I currently have a EWP, 3.73, SLP LOUD MOUTH EXHAUST, CAI, and everything else on the motor is brand new. What cam can i get the will give me as much HP as I can get with out seriously risking reliability. . ?? And what type of HP gain should I expect? Is there a kit I can buy that would have all of the surrounding parts (springs lifters maybe) that I can get that would have everything like the hot cam kit??

IMHO, the 306 is a big cam for stock bottom end and heads.

305 or 503 will make nice power. the hotcam is a nice piece too.

I'd recommend the CC 218/224 cam or the Crane 210/224. I've had both and they produced good power, low end tq and worked well on the street.

The good ol' Crane 210/224 is a great cam. Also Bret can hook it up with an Impala cam that would work well too. On a side note with an electric water pump you can use a true double roller instead of spending an arm and leg for a LT4 timing chain.

I agree with the above, the CC305 and CC503 are a couple of good grinds to choose from.

The LPE 211/219 cam is also a good cam in the ballpark price of the Comp Cams.

Do you have headers on your car? If not, I would definately reccomend getting a set before installing a camshaft. You should see a good 20hp gain from a decent set of headers.

As for cams, all of the cams mentioned in this thread are good for a street car. My advise would be to keep the duration under 230 and athe lift close to or less than .550. If you get bigger, youre going to start to really give up drivability.

For a street car where all out performance isnt the biggest concern, when it comes to value, the hotcam is hard to beat. If I was more serious about performance I would have gone with a newer, more aggressive grind but the hotcam gets it done for me.

Your best bet is to do a search for "cam stock heads" and see all the threads that come up. There are a lot of choices out there... and its hard to make a bad choice.

I have the Hot Cam kit on stock heads, and I love it. Plus it comes with everything you need. I'm running 12.7 @ 105mph in the 1/4. Good deal for price.

The Hot Cam kit is a great value, the cam is decent and works well with stock heads.
