i have an intake backfire and exhaust backfire ....what causes this ?

i have an intake backfire and exhaust backfire ....what causes this ?

it runs ....and when you give it the gas it will pop in the intake and it will pop a couple of times out of the exhaust .....any ideas what thiis could be?

bent valves, intake gasket leak, timing problems...

what gasket leak would that be ..head gasket and i have a opti spark how can it be out of time?

More info on your setup would be useful. Could be one (or more) of many causes.

If you have a 96-97 lt1, then the pin could be in one of the wrong holes...if you have a 93-95 and it does not go on properly, the pin is splined so it could be over one spline. My brother managed to do it on my car somehow, I have never screwed up the installation myself. You could also have a loose timing chain leaving it jumping timing when it runs..which could seriously screw up some stuff such as valves hitting pistons.

It really sounds like the valve timing is the issue but we can't really tell from you description. Valve timing issues come from a severely stretched timing chain.

These cars make all sorts of noises but the backfiring in the intake is a big issue. Do a compression test first....low compression is one symptom of valve timing issues.
