PCV valve

Ok so in my chiltons book it says that I can check my pcv valve (positive crankcase ventilation valve) by pulling it out of the rubber grommet while my engine is idling and put my finger over the valve to feel for a vacuum. I tried pulling the pcv valve out of the intake manifold but its blocked by a few hoses and some other stuff and theres really not a lot of clearance. Its a complete cluster **** and its not coming out very easily. does anyone have any suggestions on how i can get my pcv valve out of the rubber grommet in my intake manifold quickly and painlessly? btw its a 93 z28.

Hopefully you're pulling on the right valve. It shouldn't be too hard to pull out.

I think an easier way to check the PCV valve is to simply remove it with the engine off and shake it. If it rattles it's OK.

Good Luck!

Although that was the way of the past, I suggest to go ahead and replace... Just because it rattles, does not mean its fuctioning properly..

Comtaminates can be in the valve and not allow to close and or open..

JMO...

LOL..you're right, you might as well replace a $2.94 part if there is any question. However, if there are any contaminates in there you have more problems than just a PCV
