i have cam installed, but i have no tuning for it.
ever since i installed my cam i had a little bit of a loss in MPG. i also had installed a chip way before i got my cam and was wondering if i needed proper tuning for the cam to get the most out of it.
would my MPG go down or up with proper tuning? and will it affect emissions?
TIA

What kind of cam do you have? If its something very different from stock, of course you need tuning. I had my car tuned by madwolf (check madz28.com) and he told me that he added up to 16 degrees of timing to my cam. This a a lot, and it does make lots of difference. While you will have you computer tuned, for the same price, you can still get your shift light off, knock module....
you always always always need to tune after a cam to get full benefit out of it. Depending on the cam, tuning it will get more out of it. pcm4less nailed mine perfectly. I got a little less MPG b/c mine was running really really lean. However you could have the opposite effect. If your car is running really rich, it will probably help your MPG if your got a good tune. If your car is running lean it will probably get a little worse. Also, if it is running really lean and you drive it for a long time w/o tuning, i have heard that it can mess things up. go get that bad boy tuned!
