I had the same problem with my 1994 M6 car. The passenger side went in easily in less that 10 minutes. The drivers side was a whole different story. It was a horrible job. Here is how I got mine in. First, get a good helper. Now take both motor mount bolts out and jack the motor up as high as you can. Now remove the oil filter and steering linkage. Next take out the 3 K member bolts on the drivers side and loosen the 3 passenger side K member bolts a good amount. Then you should be able to take a long pry bar and pry the K member down on the drivers side and slip the header in from the bottom. It sucks, but it will fit.

Question

Did I miss what kind of LT's you are trying to install? FLP's take no time to get installed.

For you naysayers Hooker LT's are pretty straightforward, driver's side goes in in about 10 minutes, passenger side does take a few hours with having to jack up the motor.

Whatever you're doing I sure hope you pulled the steering linkage before you even started.

Man, I've never had issues even remotely like this with my Hooker LT's. The drivers side, with oil filter removed as the only concession, I had to tilt the headers up quite a bit, moved up a half inch, then tilt down a little, up another half inch, tilt up a bit, moved up a little, ....... repeated till it was in there. It was tight but no heavy friction. Passenger side, I had to jack up the motor an inch or so and it slid in. The first time, due to a list member recommendation, I took out the passenger sides motor mount bolt. Last month, I replaced the header gaskets and took them out (to clean the head and header flanges) and I didn't even take the bolt out, just jacked up the motor. Not a problem getting them out and in. A good friend of mine put his by himself recently and they went right in also. The SLP's were a nightmare in comparison but my LT's? No problems... I'm sorry to hear your's is going so awry.

My story: Jethot LT install
http://community.webshots.com/photo/...90241078Jacyyi

Drivers:
Removed steering shaft and oil filter. Installed from bottom w/o primary tube on. Car jacked up only about 18". Went right in.

Pass:
Installed from bottom. Jacked car to the moon. Used 6 ton stands that go to 26" in the front. These were on 6" blocks also. So; about 32" in the front. The rear was jack up about 10" or so to level the car since the front was so high. Removed starter and dipstick tube. Header went right in.

It's all in the prep work.

I'm having a hell of a time getting it in through the top, the bottom will not fit no matter what, even with the engine jacked up about 3", same with the top, it keeps hitting the valve cover mounting area.

I think Jet-Hot sent me the wrong goods.

Damn, I'd install headers for people for a lot less than that

Driver's side header took me 2 minutes to put in

Doubtful...do they look like the right ones (for a small block Chevy)? I feel sorry for you guys having all this trouble. I had a little trouble, but I figured it out pretty quickly how to do it. HAMMER IN THE CORNER ON THE FIRE WALL!!!!!!

Of course that is on top of removing steering linkage, oil filter, plugs, jacking engine way up, etc etc.

If any of you guys are in the College Station area, I'll install your headers for a fair amount. Esp after Dec 12th I have time since school is over after that.

I have installed 2 sets of Hooker LTs on A4 cars, mine and a 95 TA and had no problems like this.
The tranny was out when I put mine in but the TA had the tranny in and it wasn,t easy but once we got the car high enough in the air they both went in no problem.
Good Luck.
Don,t get discouraged it will be worth it once they are in.
