I Dont Think My Fans are Coming On

driving around last night, every time i was stuck at a red light i could watch my temp guage very slowly start to rise. it got to about the middle mark on the guage then it went back down after i began driving again.

how can i tell if my fans are working? anyone know what temp they should be coming on at? if they arent working could it be the fan motors or some fuse somewhere???

That sounds exactly normal. The stock fans don't come on until 226º and that is around the middle of the gauge. If the temps went back down while you were sitting still, then you know the fans came on, even if you could not hear them.

the temp got right about to the middle of the guage and then i got out of traffic and it cooled down, i dont think the fans came on. maybe the temp wasnt high enough. ive never had it run that hot while driving around town. i had some free mods done recently TBB, AIR, and EGR could that have made it run a bit hotter?

Drat, I missed the part where you said it went down when you began to move again. They should definitely come on before it approaches the red zone. You might do a test when it is warm enough. If the temp gets near the beginning of the red and they have not come on, switch on the a/c and see if that makes them come on (or you can turn the a/c on anytime to see if the fans come on-that will at least tell you that the fan circuitry is ok).

You could have a potential problem with the temp sensor in the water pump. That sensor supplies the pcm with the coolant temp. Another sensor in the head provides the temp for the gauge.

I had the same problem. The fuse for my cooling fans kept blowing everytime i changed them. I finally unplugged the egr valve on the back of the intake manifold since i didnt need it anymore and it fixed my problem. Now the new fuse stays new. But start the car for now and test it to see if they come on. Just let it warm up until the fans are suppose to come on. If the needle gets 3/4 of the way up then there obviously not working.
