I am a believer!! (DELTEQ)

installed the delteq today in about 2hrs time (most was recrimping my Taylor wires with 90* boots and rerouting them etc.)
after the car sitting for almost a month now because of a bad Opti spark. all it would do was crank over then pop and backfire. long story bout that

the car fired right up (right up) and i drove it around for about 60 miles and it is running flawlessly (tune is a little off but it runs better then before) car pulls ALOT harder then it did before with the old opti spark in it

this had to be the easiest(!!!) thing i have yet to install on this car and it is probably the most detremental to the reliability and performance of the motor too!!!

and i did it all for $476 which is quite a bit cheaper then buying the complete Delteq kit (definately better then buying and installing 2 optis 2 different times)

i installed 2 of them today, one on my car and one on a friends car and both of them are running now too Delteq

excellent product and a very satisfied customer

Steve

reused my Taylor plug wires by rebooting them with 90* boots which i traded the old opti ends for too a buddy with an LS1 (LS1 uses same plug boots as LT1 opti ends)

Re: I am a believer!! (DELTEQ)

I just checked out their website.
Does this mean if my opti takes a crap. I could buy this kit for $600, rewire everything, and just leave the opti where it is?
If I do the work myself that would be cheaper than getting my opti changed at a shop, right?

Yes, you just install the Delteq setup and leave the Opti in place. The cap and rotor portion are what goes bad in the Opti. You still need the Opti for the optical sensors but they very rarely go bad. The Delteq setup is very easy to install and is well worth the money especially if you are looking at changing out your Opti because it is acting up. Delteq also has really good customer service/support if needed.

I am glad I did mine.

Yes, IF the optical portion of your opti is good..
If not, then no it won't work as it still uses that, and so does PCM, fuel management, etc..

Re: I am a believer!! (DELTEQ)

So what happens when your opti has an optical failure? Mine failed because the bearing wore out, and the hi-res pulse became erratic causing a surging at idle speed. I know of three others who have had this same type of failure, and it would not have been fixed by changing just the cap and rotor. And for the last four years I have been reading about folks who buy the reman distributors and have them fail because all the remanufacturers replace is the cap and rotor. What gives?
When I installed my new GM opti, the car ran great. So it should. A spark is a spark, and when it happens at the right time, and the PCM is happy, what more can you want?

Thumbs up Re: I am a believer!! (DELTEQ)

Yes it's a excellent product. GM should've done that to begin with. It takes a extra revolution or 2 to start but so what? It is so much smoother and it pulls w/ out fail. I've ran it up to 6800 rpm like it was nothing. As far as the LTCC kit yeah it may be better but I prefer the Delteq w/ it's simple install and clean look.

Has any spaced there opti box away from the head? That seems like my only concern since the heads do get hot. I'll probably just build a bracket to be on the safe side.
