Shouldn't be any big differences IMO.

I believe the Hypertech units are about $15 anyway, so long as your thermostat isn't a $4 SBC unit you should be fine. You can test it in a pot if you'd like, but I imagine it should work fine.

The only thing good i can say about the Hypertech is u know ur getting the right Stat. I went to Murrays, asked them for a 94 LT1 Camaro Z28 160 degree Thermostat, the guy gave me one. I thought it looked wrong, but he swore on his grave it was the right one. I put it in, it seemed to fit strange. Sure enough, it WAS THE WRONG ONE! The 5 dollar AC Delco ones are the same damn thing, just make sure it's the right stat

Yeah, hope you did not waste your money on the wrong one. It needs to be the long style thermostat to work properly in the reverse flow system (no matter who makes it).

Because it is designed to work with the orifices in the water pump to direct the coolant coming from and going to the radiator. It is a much more complicated design than the old SBC style that fit in the intake manifold. If the short style is used, the in and out coolant can mix in the water pump and potential effiiciency will be lost.

Some people have managed to use the short ones and have said there were no problems. It may depend on the climate you operate in. IMO, I would not take a chance on using something that was not designed to work with the system. These engines don't take well to overheating problems.

Just go and pick up a Hypertech. You'll save yourself all the hassle and worries =)
