Huge oil leak HELP!
Huge oil leak HELP!
About 3 weeks ago the bolt in my intake box got sucked into my motor. It screwed up the drivers side head, cam, 2 valves and my #7 piston. Replaced all this, put back together and I'm leaking oil really bad. So bad I can't drive it more than 100 ft or so cause it's running right onto my y pipe on the passenger side. Checked the pan and put a new gasket on it, let it sit overnight and it's still leaking horribly. Put on new intake gaskets and silicone and also valve cover gaskets. Still the same thing. It appears to be leaking somewhere on the passenger side all over the starter, y-pipe and trans. The motor has 18000 miles on it and all brand new gaskets that are only 1 week old. Where else could this much oil be pouring out where I can't see it. I'm so lost and I've never been stumped like this before. Nothing makes sense. Sorry for the long post but the car's been out for 3 weeks and it' my only tranportation.

rear main seal. Mine was leaking with about 2,200 miles on the new build. I pulled the tranny, clutch and there was about a 1/2" rip in the gasket. Remember to put oil on the outside of the gasket as well as the inside. I didnt put it on the outside. My Hooker Y pipe was coated with oil. I lost 5 quarts in a matter of 1/2 hour. I believe Cylinder 6 is about the first place that gets oil, which is close to the rear main seal, so if you have a decent sized leak like mine then you will lose tons of oil like myself.
After I fixed the rear main the car has been leak free ever since.

Yeah oil is all over my inspection cover, bellhousing and y pipe (passenger side) And yes I lost about 3-4 quarts in about 10 minutes. Seems like the rear main to me since I couldn't find a leak anywhere else. This only takes me about 2 hours to do so not too big of a deal
Re: Huge oil leak HELP!
It took me a good 6hr's to do the job. I started at 9am and ended around 6pm. I did take hour long brakes in between, but it was still a 6 hr long job. The clutch alignment was the toughest because I lost my alignment tool. If you have an alignment tool for your clutch it could be done in a lot less amount of time. I also had to cut off my exhaust to get access to drop my tranny and clutch.
Re: Huge oil leak HELP!
Well I replaced the rear main seal and it's still leaking. I have no idea what it could be now that I have replaced all the gaskets on the motor. Could a crack in the head leak that much? Why can't I find this leak?
