Hub Question..quick please :)

OK I think I have some things mixed up. I bought a hub from ASP for the LT1. I told them I wanted a 95 and below hub. I have a stock hub but I don't know what year engine it came off of. The one they sent me is SHORTER. After reading I hear that the short hubs are suposed to be from the 96+? Question is will this short hub work on a engine with not CPS??

I just gave someone completly wrong info I think. I told him the hubs on the 96+ were longer to compensate for that CPS but now I read on here it is the opposite of that? Can someone please shine some light on it.

93-95 hubs = short or long?

Weird thing is this guy has a 94 z28 and his hub is the short version???

Too many mixes answeres on this question. Is there anyone that knows exactly what is what that can chime in please.

I'm not exactly sure which year the CPS came out whether it was 95 or 96, but the hub will be shorter for those which use a CP reluctor gear and longer for those that do not use the reluctor gear.

93-95 long hub, no CPS.
96-97 short hub for CPS.

And don't try to run a short hub on a 93-95 car unless you like throwing belts due to pulley misalignment.

UPDATE:

I called ASP and told them they sent me the short one when I asked for a 95 and below. They told me all they ever cary is the 94-95 version and they dont even have 96+ and never did. If that is the case why is my ASP hub shorter than this stock one I have by quite a bit?

Your option at this point to run that ASP unit will be to have a machine shop create a keyed spacer/washer for you to place b/w the hub and the crank gear. The spacer must be exactly wide enough to make up the diff b/w a 95 style hub and the ASP hub length difference.

I would call ASP again and ask for them to give you their explanation as to why their hub is shorter as using that will cause you to throw belts once it's tightened down. Maybe you got a defective unit.... doubt it but...

OK everyone please chime in. I am confused beyond beleif now. Please read...

Everyone says:
94-95 = Long
96-97 = Short

However;
I called ASP and they told me they ONLY carry the 94-95 hub and thats what I ordered and it seems to be the short version compared to my other one.

Also:
This guy just broke his hub and had to get a new one (timing set broke). We compared hubs and he also has the short one. He has a 94z28 and he went and confirmed he has no crank sensor and he has the 94 style timing cover. So how is he using the short hub then?

So ASP has it wrong by selling short units as a 94-95 piece and this guy has a 94 piece that is short and has been using it for years... UNLESS there are 3 sizes with atleast a 1/2" difference. because my stock hub is roughly 1/2" longer than my asp hub. and my stock one is like 1/10 shorter than a hub from a roadmaster. So unless my asp hub which is a 1/2" shorter than this other stock hub I have is still longer than a different model??

Im sure I confused everything but something isn't matching up here.

That is correct as already stated. The only reason for the shorter hub was to compensate for the CP reluctor gear. You want your hub to butt up against the crank timing sproket to prevent it from walking. With the reluctor gear in place the hub had to be shorter to ensure the crank pulley would align with all other pulleys.

Well I have a cloyes double roller. So I guess I need to install the hub until it touches the timing gear and throw the accessory bracket on and see if everything lines up?

I believe Iron head motors have different hubs as well. Me and my buddy bought an Iron headed 95 Caddy LT1 and i took the short block to build for my car. When i installed the motor i just used the Caddy's hub and it didn't line up with my other accessories. I had to yank it and install the old hub off my 95 z28. I'm pretty sure the Caddy motor it had a vented opti, and was an OBD1 motor.

LT1 hubs from different car models are not all the same. The discussion here was about f-body hubs. B and Y body hubs are different (or can be) than the f-body because of the spacing of their particular accessory drives.

Yeah i just added because he said he didn't know the year that the hub he has came off of. So i figured if he didn't know the year he might not even be to certain as to if it came off an Fbody.

Well I know the long hub I have came off a z28. I thought the guy said it was a 94. The thing I still dont understand is I was sent a short hub by ASP who only carry's 94-95 model hub and this other guy I know has a short hub on his 94 z28 which was confirmed not to have the newer timing cover and he has had that stock hub for years... So whats goin on. Everyone on these boards is telling me the 94-95 should be the long hub but every first had experience I have ran in to is telling me the opposite!
