How are you running your opti with an adj. timing chain!? HELP

I just put on a Cloyes Double Roller timing chain. I had to cut off some of the dowel pin on the cam in order to be able to adjust the cam using the adj. timing chain. The pin stuck out wayy to far and I wasnt able to fit an allen wrench inside. Now i am ready to put on the opti and that pin needs to fit into the opti. Did you guys end up drilling the opti so the circlular peice that the dowel pin is in, fits into the opti? I need help as soon as possible. Thanks guys. -Matt

The dowel pin needs to be a certain length. If you do any adjustment of the timing set, you will also need to compensate the spark timing in the PCM programming.

Im glad to see you are the one that is responding to my post. If anyone can help its probably you. The problem is that on the Cloyes adj. Double Roller Chain the adjuster sticks out as far as the bolts holding the gear on does. Therefore the Opti needs to be drilled for the adjuster bushing to fit, instead of the dowel pin. Also, even if the bushing sat in further then the gear the dowel pin isnt anyway near long enough. That was cut to fit further back so that I could use an allen wrench to adjust the cam. The dowel pin has to sit further back. I appreciate your help, I am stuck at a stand still right now, getting ready to start drilling the opti so the bushing can fit. Please respond as soon as ya can. Thanks. -Matt

Ya don't need an adj timing chain anyway. If the cam degrees "Off" ya need to get the right cam or like Shoe said go through the brain damage with the computer.
Put a double roller in it or a LT4 HD set.

I don't know of anyone using an adjustable timing set on an LT1. Probably because of the afore mentioned issue with the PCM. I think most people just have a cam ground to the way they want it.

Well i already have the chain and all. Plus many are running the same setup but some how i have never heard this problem ever mentioned. I have no idea how anyone could have not ran into this problem. Ive read many posts and all that is mentioned is that the timing cover may beed to be grinded down which i did have to do. The guy at Victory Racing also said he runs this setup all the time with no problems. -Matt

the cloyes duble roller is common, but not the adjustable one

Man this just really sucks. All this work and everything needs to come back off. I gotta do what i gotta do i guess. Heres the description of the timing chain on Victoryracingengines.com that i bought from them. Hopefully Nick will chime in and help me out here. :blah:

Re: How are you running your opti with an adj. timing chain!? HELP

yeah, since the dowel is used for something other than cam sprocket alignment, that set needs some modifying of the opti

that set is sold by cloyes as 85 up roller cam w/o balance shaft
