How would I know if I damaged the valves?

I'm not running header gaskets and I think I might have damaged my valves. How would the motor act if I damaged valves?

Re: How would I know if I damaged the valves?

If you are talking about burned valves, your engine would surely react by reduced power, possible back fire, jerking, etc.

1/3 of the heat generated by your engine is removed by the exhaust system.
If you are not running gaskets, it seems that you are not getting the full benefit of the headers drawing off all that heat.

That, of course, is just my uneducated guess.
