How to use Cam jargen.....

I has a CC305 cam. Most ppl don't know the specs on that cam. When I tell ppl the specs I would say that it is a 279/290 Cam?

That's a HUGE frickin cam.. I think you got your numbers a little mixed up

Sorry, I don't know what the actual numbers are with the 305.

On this forum most of the time people talk in terms of .050 specs, which would be 220/230 (on a 114 by default), but if you know the rest it tells them a little something about lobe profile (sort of anyway, obviously not the whole story).

the cam he described isnt huge. he's just using different messurements. he's using advertised duration which is usually duration @ .006 or .004 it really depends on who made the cam what mesurement they use. but the most common messurements when talking about cams are @ 50 lift. intake centerline means things to a lot of people who are into cars. and the lobe seperation will help them figure the overlap relative to the cam size.

ah, I see

I understand the significance of intake centerline and Lobe Seperation Angle (LSA) in determining overlap. The duration given at a lesser lift allows you to see the steepness of the ramps, doesn't it? But, I fail to see how duration given at such a low lift could be helpful in any other way. So what am I missing, why bother to advertise duration at such a low lift?

Can someone clarify?

yes, by comparing the low lift and the lift @ 50 duration you can see how fast the ramps are. the reason for giving advertized duration is sometimes with smaller cams zz4, 210/224 crane etc etc the overlap @ 50 will be a negative number. most people arent far enough into how cams work and what all the terms mean to give much of a **** about what the icl is or anything else besides the max lift and the duration @ 50.
