how to test a opti with a mutimeter??

if this is the wrong place im sorry...

im currently trying to start my car right now with XFI and its throwing a 128 code that is pretty much saying there either isnt a crank signal or its at the wrong time...

is there a way to check the opti with a multimeter? if so how? im using a stock opti that has been sitting in my garage for almost 2yrs so it might be bad but i donno. if anyone can tell me that would be cool. thanks in advance.

128? There is no DTC 128 for a 1995. I don't know of any way to test one with a meter.

With 12 volts on the red wire (pin C) and ground on the pink/black wire (pin D). You can measure a step from 0 to 5 volts and then back to 0 volts on both pin A (red/black) wire and pin B ( purple/white wire) to the same ground pin. You must however turn it very slowly to see the transition on pin B.

No problem.... typed the same response you did, but somehow the light bulb came on just before I hit the "post" button.

conclusion...... yea the dreaded opti strikes again.

i pulled the opti apart just now and found oil under the silver piece that is between the opti sensor and the rotor. pulled the sensor off and found oil on the inside where the wheel goes in damn opti

Usually when oil gets into the opti, it's the fault of the seal in the timing cover. NOT the opti.
