how to test MAF sensor?

is there some way to test the MAF sensor? i'm wondering if its the reason for my randomly rough idle, crappy gas milage, and low BLM's

No real good way to test it since it responds to the PCM with a different frequency depending on how much current is needed to keep the wire at a certain temperature. As air flow increases more current is needed to keep the temperature constant. The MAF responds with a certain frequency response. The PCM uses this feedback to calculate the grams per second of air entering the engine.

You can try disconnecting it and the PCM will go into speed density mode. It will use the input of the MAP sensor, the low resolution signal of the distributor and IAT to determine injector pulse width. You could also try cleaning it with tuner cleaner spray from radio shack.
