How sensitive is a coil to engine Temp's ??

I was wondering what symptoms I would see if my coil was STARTING to go bad. The last coil I had go out on me was Working and then DEAD!! There was no gradual demise or "kinda works" It just died. My car starts to spit and spuder only after the car comes to normal opperating temp's. I got new plugs and fairly new wires. I'm thinkin that the coil is heating up and not being able to handle it and failing after heating up. Does this make sense to anyone else?

Thanks

Sounds like it could be an opti... My old bird did that in 2000.. Ran great until it went into closed loop and then it sputtered, back fired, pinged, etc.. replaced the opti and the problem was solved.. I would do an LTCC instead of an opti though and never have to replace it again!

I could see the ICM being more affected by heat than the coil, but even that is speculation. It may be something totally different. Some scan data would go a long way in diagnosing the problem.

I installed a new coil and the car felt great all last night. this morning I fired it up and I got a slight spuder at low rpm. I'm gonna have the ICM checked today to see if it shows some issues. WE SHALL SEE!!! Thanks for the help ya'll

Im havin the exact same problem! I was also thinking that the coil was failing under the heat since I installed one of my open loop programs and saw no change it how it ran after it heated up. Sorry for the dumb question but what is the ICM? TIA

The ICM is what relays the firing signals to the coil.
