How to replace the Crank Position Sensor...?

How do i replace the crank position sensor? where is it located? Does it have any bearing on how my car will run? (i.e. a malfunctioning sensor causing the whole drivetrain to buck under load at low rpm). I really need help with this guys ... i dont want to send my motor to an early grave!

thanks...

The only thing it does it monitor missfires. Haveing it nonfunctional wont send your car to an early grave. In fact mine is deleted out with LT1 edit.

It is located on the passenger side on the bottom of the timing cover.

did it cause your car to vibrate at all or cause the drivetrain to bounce around under load at low rpm ?

No the sensor just detects misfires, nothing else, It wont cause any of those symptoms. Did you check your motor and tranny mounts, they maybe the culprit.

acutally, i think its my MAP sensor - i unplugged my MAP sensor and it had all of the same crap go wrong with it. I guess its not getting enough fuel - well, i'll just replace it and see how things go...

any other input would be much appreciated...

thanks!

MAF sensor is fine - i unplugged it and the car barely ran. I think some of the plug wires got crossed around or something

Of course, this is not on a 3800 and not an lt-1, but still thought it was useful, since some people argue that that is the only thing any crank position sensors do

theres my useless post for the day
Very true. Most other cars won't even run without the crank position sensor.

Now, if we were only talking about those other cars....
