How to remove the spark plugs?
I just got done putting a tune up on my 96-z. And I got most of the spark plugs out without a problem. But the rear two on the right bank was a SOB!!!!Is there a trick to this or a special tool made? My arms are too big to fit up there and my wifes arms didnt fit either. So we used a 11 year old with small arms to get those out! I know the GM dealers dont use kids or go looking for folks with small arms to do this task. So whats the trick? Also replaced my opti spark and I'll be darned if it still doesnt stall. Replaced the coil, and icm. What I have found is that when it stalls, I remove the air duct between the mass air sensor and the air filter and it fires right up! Whats up with that?

Spark-Plug Socket, Modified to work with headers (1)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In order to make spark plug removal a little easier in the crowded F-car engine compartment; SLP has developed this modified spark plug socket. Cut down to fit into extremely tight areas; the socket has had the square drive removed to allow the plug to protrude. The socket is turned using an open or box end wrench on the hex base.
NOTE: Due to the current cost of order processing, SLP has instituted a $25.00 minimum order requirement.

The modified SLP plug socket helps. I have never tried to do plugs on a car without headers but it seems that it would be much worse. It is not the easiest thing to do with headers. Another trick is to get the back 2 is to go at them from underneath after removing the starter.
You should include a "signature" with your post with the year of your car engine, transmission and any mods so people know exactly what you are working with... It helps people give accurate advice.

It depends on the headers. I have the "smog-legal" headers which are small but are better than nothing. It is a royal-pain to get those plugs out. It took me 6 hours with a special socket tool and a gear-drive wrench.
I'm turning in my TR55s (coppers) today for some Iridiums... I'm not going through this again for a while.
Not all headers are the same, some are really easy. It's just the CARB approved one's are difficult. IMO

Mine are a little difficult i have pacesetter mids. But I also have skinny hands. I use a regular 5/8 plug socket and a 3/4 ratcheting wrench. I can get all from the top but #5 & #7 are easier from the bottom.
