How to remove oil pan?
Re: How to remove oil pan?
I have already removed one rocker arm/pushrod. Do I need to put them back on before I rotate the crank to the 12 o'clock position?
You have to remove the sensor with it's huge hex end. If you leave it in it will break as you ty to pull the pan off.
I've dropped the pan a couple of times and while it isn't easy it is certainly doable. The trick, I think, is to support the tranny and out in longer cross member bolts to allow the back of the tranny to drop down as the engine is lifted.
You don't have to remove any coolant lines.
You must pull the oil level dipstick tube almost out.
The pan will come out easier if you rotate the engine so the arrow on the balancer points to 12 o'clock.
Jack the engine up off the mounts until the manifold just touches the cowl. The tranny will be shifted downward on those longer bolts. Stick something in each motor mount to suport the engine..just for safety sake.
If you have an automatice, remove the torque convertor cover to gain a little clearance. Nothing much that can be done with a manual except wiggle it out.
I wouldn't jack on the balancer nor use a chain on it but that's me. I'd suggest a cherry-picker...

Re: How to remove oil pan?
Im actually finishing up my pan(came in to eat).. All I did was take the alt off and use the top bolt to run thru a chain and put the other side of the chain on the stud left sticking out of your head for your coil, put a bolt on it, put a lil pressure on it with your cherry picker then take the motor mount bolts out, the should slide right out if you have a lil pressure on your picker... jack it up as high as you can before it starts lifting the car up, crawl under there unbolt it, pull it down some and take your sensor out.. you can leave your starter on but youll have to use a little force due to the hump in the pan for the dipstick.. then it will slide right off.. do what you gotta do then shove it on there and bolt it up!!
Why did you need to remove your pan?
Sounds like I need to guy buy a cherry picker. Was just going to use a jack on the bellhousing to get the engine tilted up. Would I be able to jack up at the bellhousing to get the engine up high enough without having to remove the transmission mount? Also, I did jack up the bellhousing a little but today and tapped on the motor mount bolts a bit to try and get them out. They wouldn't budge. How much should I have to jack up the engine to get the mount bolts freed up?

What size is the nut for the low oil sensor?
