How to remove front "hub"?

I guess that's what it's called. The part of the crank that the pulley is on. I need to get the timing cover and chain off but it's in the way. Isn't there a puller they make for that?

Yes, use a pulley puller. I went to Autozone and rented a generic puller that uses bolts that thread into the hub. I had to throw in a small diameter bolt to go back to the crank, if that makes sense.

What I don't know is does the 'thing' have to go back on where it came off? Meaning is the pulley weighted for the crank?

Re: How to remove front "hub"?

i used a skinner bolt with a layer of tape on it so it would not screw up the threads on the crank..(on the top of the bolt you want a round divit for the tip of the puller to ride in) then i used alittle bit of MAP gas when heating the Hub..heat it crank on it..heat it crank on it..then after putting pressure on the hub i tapped it with a hammer..then cranked on the puller and so forth till it came off.

be sure to put new seals in the timeing cover!

A longer grade 8 bolt, fully threaded into the crank, will give a regular balancer puller something to push against.

Thanks for the replies guys! I am doing a full rebuild/performance build-up and the kit comes with all gaskets.
