How are other hotcam cars idleing ???

hey guys have a question about hotcams. I have all the mods on my 97 listed below. My car idles well. Its pretty constant and doesnt really surge or anything. Its tuned by pcmforless to idle at 750rpms in gear. The car has a definate lope , in fact it shakes the car. Its always done this and I never thought much about it till I saw on here alot of people say the hotcam is supposed to be pretty mild and while alot of people say it has just a noticeable lope , Id say mine has more than a just noticeable lope, it sounds like a pro street car. My knock sensor hasnt tripped so I dont think its misfireing . I do have an EGR code which I have heard can cause a choppy idle , but the EGR code is a new thing and its always idled like this. It might be just fine , maybe the heads with higher compression cause it I dunno. Just wanna see what the general concensus is .
thanks , Justin
p.s. , got my loudmouth put on finally , one word , "awesome"

egr will cause a big difference, but being at 750 will also cause a good bit. raise it up to 850 and a lot of lope and shake will go away

I have the hotcam and PCMforLess tuning and I am not for certain but I think the idle in gear should be around 850. Before the tune the car idle really rough but after the tune it idles fairly well. I do get a slight surge every once in while mostly with the A/C on.

Re: How are other hotcam cars idleing ???

im sorry its at 775 not 750 (tachometer is off a hair I scanned it) . It used to idle at 850 before the tune. I asked them about how much they could lower it because at 850 it was dragging me around before the stall. I dont mind the loping or Idle I just wanted to make sure it wasnt a sign of a more serious problem or was bad for the car. I do plan on checking the EGR in a week or two , its stopped giving me the code , but I dont take very long trips often and its 50mph speed limit all the way down this island. It could have always been there , the first time I got the code was on my way up to richmond to leave big black marks halfway down richmond dragway (which wasnt my original intent , fulda extremo's). This was the first "long" trip I have ever taken in this car.

Mine idles at 750, shakes the car and has a distinct lope.

Take my car for example with a MUCH larger cam. At 950-1000 it does not shake the car, still has distinct lope, and provides more idle vacuum. If lowered to 750-800, it lopes a LOT harder, has lower vacuum, and shakes the car.

im not sure what my idle is ill have to check but i was about to come in here and post this same thread. Mine runs rough mostly in reverse when i first put it in reverse itll chug really hard like its going to stall (sometimes it does with no gas) but after like 5-10 seconds in reverse it stops and runs fine. but at idle it does shake alot but ive never had a cammed car before so im not sure what to expect. I have mods in sig with MadZ tune. I had some false knock threw the lt4 km in and it stopped.

Have you checked your IAC motor readings ??? Mine USED to do that even at a higher idle , especially with a/c on. Turned out my throttle blades were open a hair to much at idle and that made the IAC close all the way and the engine still race. Backed out the idle skrew a little bit and idle improved and the IAC motor was hanging around 50 or so I think which is pretty good. Plus it never did the stall thing again , and this was before the tune.

Re: How are other hotcam cars idleing ???

ok , heres an update , my idle is starting to seem a lil off and my exhaust has gotten a lil more poppy. The car is surging at idle a little bit sometimes. The EGR code is more persistant than before , I erase it and it comes back quickly . I think I have a evil EGR valve on my hands. Does this sound like something and EGR valve can cause ???
