95z28 cammaro running hot
Re: 95z28 cammaro running hot
two things:
the thermostat you put in, was it specifially for an lt1 (reverse flow)?
also are you sure your fans are turning on? check the relays in the underhood fuse block, you can also find schematics for a homemade manual fan switch on shoebox's website.
good luck
Nick

18 psi radiator cap installed?
What temps do you see?
What was the original problem?
If you get immediate bubbling from the radiator, you might have a blown head gasket.

do you have enough water? LOL an ALL TOO OFTEN overlooked problem, people pop their radiator caps when the car is cold or the thermo is closed, and the system looks full.... start it cold, fill it... through the radiator cap.... fill it till its full... then put the cap back on... wait a few minutes to let the motor warm up and start cycling.... then open the cap again (making sure you didnt let the motor get THAT hot... and you burn yourself with hot steam/coolant) and check the level.... i guarentee it will be low....

Re: 95z28 cammaro running hot
One question you failed ot answer is what temps do you see? How hot is it? Even with a 160 stat the stock fans don't come on until 225 degrees (235 for high fans). If you're doing city driving hitting stop lights it's not uncommon for a stock car to hit 210-220. My stock 94 T/A would run around 220 all the time when i drove through city until i got on the high way in the 100+ degree heat. Even my camaro with 160 stat and programming still hits 190-200 pretty easy in city driving when it's over 100 degrees out.
Re: 95z28 cammaro running hot
The car will register as hot as the gauge will show, but i want let it run that hot. I have notice that the purge screw hose line is hot on the side near the water pump and cold on the opposite side.

Re: 95z28 cammaro running hot
which hose are you talking about? the heater core hose? or the upper radiator hose going to the thermostat? do this.... run the car with NO thermo, and see what happens.... i have heard that buying remanufactured water pumps (which most people would do to save money) can be hazardous to these motors.... my intel has told me never buy a kragen or auto zone water pump, unless its brand new... and possibly to even go with AC delco OEM water pumps... so take out the thermo, and if it STILL overheats.... your water pump is more than likely bad.... or you can try and run your fans constant, and see if that helps... other than that? you check your oil level? and how does the car idle? a misfire can cometimes result in overheating, so can a low oil level... OH!!!! damn dont let me forget! HOSES!!! are they in good condition? check em while they are hot, squeeze them, if they are squishy, or there is too much play in them, the rubber is worn out, and usually the pressure built up will collapse the hose on you and not let water pass.... its another often overlooked trouble shooter... happened to me a few times, so i dont want anyone telling me it cant be!!! lol
check it out man, there are only a few things involved in your cooling system...
water jackets (heads, intake, and block)
freeze plugs (they would leak)
head gasket (water in oil, and oil in water, or water in exhaust)
water pump (leaky or failing to flow)
radiator (leaky or clogged)
hoses (busted, cracked, or work out and collapsable)
thermostat (stuck open/closed)
fans (not coming on when they should, if at all)
and radiator cap (wrong PSI rating, or failing)
and of course your heater core and things like that... but the car wont overheat without a working heater core... so thats left out... if all the above are functional? what the hell could be wrong with it? i overlook something?

Check to make sure the wp is working by opening your radiator cap, and look for a stream squirting from the back of the radiator to the front (all of like 1" from back to front)
my guess is the wp propeller isnt moving. or the "purge screw hose line" a.k.a. your heater hose has some chunky old coolant in it.
