About to drop the tank and i am going to need to get the fuel out before i do so. I unhooked the line before the fuel filter and want to pump the gas out using the stock fuel pump. I am going to directly hook current to the fuel pump but i was wondering how much juice i need run to the pump without damaging it. Im guessing 12 Volts but i just want to make sure. Let me know.

10 volts to 15 volts with no problems.. it should be able to handle anyhting the alt can dish out.

 

Thanks man. Thats what i thought but just wanted to be certain. Can never be too safe when messing with the fuel system.

Are you aware there's a fuel pump prime connector near the PCM that allows you to power the pump. You would just connect 12V to it.

Wow never knew that. This makes life a whole lot simpler. Thanks a bunch Injuneer. And just for the record, why did GM put that prime there?

I suspect GM provided a "prime" connection because there is no other way to get the pump to run continuously without the engine running. When you turn the key on, the pump starts, and then shuts down if you don't start the engine. The PCM is looking for the low resolution pulse from the Opti, and when it doesn't see it, it shuts off the pump.

 

Makes sense and it sure did make it easy to get the gas out. Thanks as always.
