How much spray can a 11 to 1 383 take

I went out for a ride in my buddies 95 Turbo Mustang and it was faster then all hell. My 383 now feels slow so I need to give it some spray. I have maybe 1100 miles on complete rebuild. Its a 383 11 to 1 cr with a forged crank, H-beam rods, and Mahle forged pistons. Stock ported heads with big valves ported intake and a cc306 cam. I have a mallory 685 ignition box to pull timing. How much will it take safely.

Were the pistons/rings selected and set up for a large shot of nitrous? Vague terms like "forged crank" (e.g. - Scat or Callies would make a difference), and "H-beam rods" prevent any sort of meaningful analysis of the ultimate capacity of the engine. Do you have a 4-bolt main conversion?

I spray a 300-shot. See "mods list" for the details.

No it is still a 2 bolt and the Crank and rods are Eagle. Its all I could afford at the time. I would like to start with a 125 and see how that feels. I would think the engine should be good for a 200 shot but I wasn't sure because of the compression ratio

Nitrous likes high compression ratios. You just have to figure out how much timing to pull at each level of nitrous.

125 shot "should be" safe, what is your ring gap? I have heard horror stories of built engines blowing up on small shots due to set up.

I agree. You could start in the 100-125 HP range for starters and work your way up carefully from there.

I spoke with the guy who did the motor and he said he increased the ring gap by .025" for the nitrous. I just bought a Nitrous Express kit last night and I can't wait to try it out. The kit is only good for a 150 shot. Does anyone think that would be too much for the motor. I'm going to retard the timing 1 degree per 50hp. What should I start out with.

The gap is large enough that is for sure.

Standard is to pull 2 deg of timing for every 50hp you hit it with.

Elaborate? People use the juice on stock engines every day, this guy is in a whole new playing field than a stock engine I see no reason for him not to use some.

He's got a forged rotating assembly, why on earth would he not spray? I say stoke it up!

Rather than use a "rule of thumb" to retard the timing, get it tuned correctly and let the tuner determine how much timing to pull when you spray. Reading the plugs is really the only way to do it on an engine that is already putting down decent power.

I wanted to give it the juice on the dyno to make sure my A/F ratio stays safe. Camaro Country CC here in Ontario is having a dyno day at redline performacnce on sunday. But instead of putting the kit in today I've been chasing sharks from both sides of the engine. I looks like my wires arced on the alt because of the alt relocation bracket. I think the wires are also hitting the air pump header crossover pipe ? because I have sparks coming off it on the driver side. First I thought it was the rainy weather getting to my opti but it looks like wires. The vacuum hose of the opti which is rubber is arcing off the air pump pipe. I've never seen rubber conduct electicity but its doing it. I think its the Electronics cleaner I spayed earlier that coated the wires. I'm totally lost. If anyone has ever seen this feel free to speak up.
