I went down that road and checked out the LT4 Kit with heads and cam combo... After listening to the cylinder head porters on this site, I decided to port the stock LT1 heads with about 260 CFM and the CC503 Cam (to keep is smog legal with a computer tune).

That will yield more power than the LT4 Complete Kit (not the Hot Cam kit) out of the box. Of course, if you want to port and polish your LT4 heads and intake it will be more money but you'll have plenty of power.

The LT4 heads (at least the AFR ones, not sure on factory ones) can be ported to some insane level, like in the neighborhood of 330 or so, at least thats what i hear. but out of the box the LT4 heads will outflow your current LT1 heads. i agree with the aforementioned idea to get the LT1 heads ported vs. buying the LT4's, unless you are going for some SICK power, then buy and port the LT4's, but thats big bucks.

Thats cool. I will probably just port my LT1's. I was just thinking about going with the whole "LT4" thing. Is that the only difference between the LT1 and the LT4? The cam and heads? Is it the same block as us?? Just wondering. Curious.

I dont know a site for the hotcam kit but i know the cheapest place hands down to get it. Jason cromer. 455 bucks shipped. That is a lot cheaper than you will find anywhere else.

You can go to GM Parts direct, do a search on this site, or search on Google. If you go to GM Parts Direct, today (not sure if it changes) has a LT4 Kit on the home page. You may want to check it out. Also, while you change your cam, it is a good idea to get a LT4 Extreme Duty Timing Chain.

Yes, the bottom end is the same as the LT1. The only difference is the Cam and Valvetrain (hot cam kit) & intake manifold and heads for the LT4 Complete Kit. The intake and heads of the LT4 are NOT interchangeable with the LT1 set up, or I should say, the LT4 heads and intake go together and the LT1 heads and intake go together. You cannot mix the LT1 heads with the LT4 intake, or the LT4 heads and LT1 intake.

No, they are saying if you do the COMPLETE kit. Includes LT4 hotcam kit, LT4 heads, LT4 intake manifold. Then you will be in that 400 + range.

Yep, the article was verified by Chevy High Performance. As said by 95z28, it is the entire kit which you can find on the front page of www.gmpartsdirect.com for $2100. You'll get the heads, intake, 1.6 Roller Rockers, Hot Cam, etc.. it is all itemized. Everything but the LT4 Extreme Duty Timing Chain. http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results...ber=pk12550630

But, if you figure you can port and polish your heads, intake, get a comp cam, etc... www.racenet.net has a kit with your heads exchanged for $2299.

They are about the same price.

Porting price range seems to be $1300 - $2000. Skarodom (Phil) will do a good job at www.advancedinduction.com

But you'll need to add the cam and valvetrain components with any stock head port.

The difference will be that you will have a stonger cam and heads that have better low lift flow numbers.
