How much money do I need to budget for heads/cam?
It's going to be for a 95 Z28 with Moroso CAI, mid-length headers and GMMG... Car is otherwise stock with 103,000 miles.
How much money do I need to plan on spending in order to go heads and cam? Include all related parts or issues in your estimates.
I was looking at going with LE1s at the moment... If I went with LE2s would that require internal work so the motor could keep up with the heads?
Suggestions and comments please.

Re: How much money do I need to budget for heads/cam?
Neither the LE1/LE2 packages require any bottom end rebuild. If you're motor is in good shape now it should be for quite some time. At worst I would budget $2500-$3000 for everything including LE1 heads/cam, gaskets, dyno tune etc. The price goes down as you can find deals on most of the parts but that would require a lot of patience or luck to obtain everything at a discount and some suff used. Possibly add a couple hundred for the LE2 due to the added cost of the package. I spent about $3500 for all the parts, the tune and all the little supplies that are needed. Like I said, what you spend will vary but that should give you a rough estimate of what to expect.

Okay, cool.
Do you have a quick laundry list of parts needed, off the top of your head?
Luckily my buddy is a mechanic so I don't have to pay tons of labor like I would at a shop, we just do the work together, and I pay him a little bit for his time.

Lloyd should have all the hardware for the heads (springs etc) so you'd need:
-rockers, 1.6 roller would be best
-rocker studs/valve covers if you go 7/16 or modify your stock valve covers
-head/intake/timing cover/water pump gaskets
-head bolts
-injectors
-timing set/chain
-thread locker/sealant and other small supplies
-pushrods
-lifters if you dont feel your stockers are up to snuff or for preventative maintenance
thats all i can think of of the top of my head but im sure i'm leaving some things out

Good thread. Does anyone have a rough price list as to what these supporting mods would cost? I'm looking into heads and cam and would like to get a rough idea myself.

Re: How much money do I need to budget for heads/cam?
Well Lloyd or Bret will tell you that you might get away with stock 3.23's with the LE1, but with a LE2 they recommend 3.73's. With either package your going to want a aftermarket TQ Converter. With the aftermarket TC your talking tranny cooler and a Pro Built Transgo shift kit. Possibly a E-WP so you can run a Cloyes true roller timing set, plus take advantage of extra HP/TQ.
The rest of the stuff is listed. I have alot already knocked off my H/C list, after the stall its time for the fun stuff

if you run a double roller... do you have to switch to the 95+ timing cover... if so there is another few hundred bucks for the new opti and junk... make sure you price EVERYTHING before you dive into it... Unless you have a bunch of money and dont care what comes up. If you are going to budget 4 to do it with... i would have at least another 1000 set aside for stuff that will come up, or stuff that will be forgotten

When you make a budget, do a very complete list of everything you could possible need, even budget for things you don't necessarily think you will need, but could need replacing(opti, waterpump, PR's, gaskets, bolts, fluids, etc). That way once you dig into your project you don't find yourself outta money and needing stuff you didnt budget for. Then theres a possibility that you can come out of it under budget.
