How much hp stock parts handle

How much can a new stock crank safely handle? Same with stock rods and pistons?

Re: How much hp

There are "heads & cam" cars pushing 500HP at the flywheel, on the stock rotating assembly. The only two well-documented cases of PM rod failure I have seen were in 600HP applications.

Got that one wrong .. I thought that I seen something about reliability issues around the 400hp
mark with the transmission , engine or rear end ??

500 HP from the engine while limiting RPMs to 6500 is a build limit for the stock crank/rods.

If you plan rev higher than 6500.....well.....I would go forged.

Re: How much hp stock parts handle

I'm just looking for something that I know would hang with any car around here. If the stock crank and pistons can handle 450, that works for be. That would help me out allot as far as funds.

I'd like to send my heads to lloyd. One thing I really want, but have no idea what I'm looking for, is a seriously lopey cam.

Re: How much hp

A "lopey" cam is likely going to be a cam that requires high RPM to make HP. Base your choice on how it performs under the conditions you plan to drive it, not on how much the cam lopes.

^^^^^^True that^^^^^^

If you want a cam that will allow you to 'hang with' other cars in your area, then you want a cam that's spec'ed to perform not spec'ed to lope.

With anything near stock compression, a 'lopey' cam will go a long way in compromising the power of your engine build......and particularly, the 'off-the-line' performance.

Re: How much hp stock parts handle

This would be strictly a street car. No track time ever.no high rpm driving either.

How does it work when you contact lloyd? I have no idea what I'm doing.

Go to his web site, send him an email, tell him your goals are, what you want, and EVERYTHING about your car (all current mods).

He'll instruct you from there as far a payment, core returns, etc are concerned.
