How much is the GM847?

I guess everyone is now going with the GM847 now. I was wondering how much they were, what the specs were and if you can just get them from a chevrolet dealer or what? Is this a new cam? Or has it been around awhile. Thanks

When you say been around awhile what do you mean? Im not sure the name "GM 847" has been labeled on this cam for all that long, but i know crane has been making there version of it for quite awhile. The lobes arent anything special, so you could have theoretically gotten this grind LONG LONG time ago.

I wouldn't have said anything if I didn't know you already...
Just watch him drive with that cam for a couple of weeks and then it hits him... "Super Custom Home Made Solid Roller Hotcam on a 108.34798374487539 LSA!" The ultimate sleeper!

The 12370847 camshaft (GM847) has been in GM Parts Perfomance catalogs for a long time now. The only place where its called the "GM847" though, is on this board

I have the 2001 GM catalog with me here and its listed. Before that I had a 1999 catalog and the GM847 was in it too if I'm not mistaken. I first heard about it on here about 2 years ago but its mostly because of you and me thats its become popular. I think GM should give us a commission or a gift like a free set of custom ported AFR heads

Agreed! Free parts are always nice. I was looking through a year one catalouge last night from 2000, and they had the cam listed but under a different part number. Dont know if they redo the part numbers in their catalouge, or if GM renamed the part number later on.

I first heard of this grind about 2/2.5 years ago from my buddy. I used it on a 350 Imp SS i was putting together and LOVED it, then that project turned into a 383, and I still love it in there, although we may be going SR with it soon.

Not sure how it ever started getting called "gm847" First time i saw that name, i had already used the cam in two different cars and was like "hey, thats my cam, lol". I always gave out the crane grind number (wasnt aware that GM even had this grind), specs on it, and to get it custom ground. lol. Times change
