Well, it looks like you're ready to drop some serious cash. My shop is giving me good prices on machining, and the other misc stuff. I could have bought my SCAT rotating assembly for $809 from a guy I know who's a dealer, but I payed $982 through the machine stop instead. One reason being if anything isn't correct, *I* don't eat the shipping charges. Plus, it gives him a little kick-back on profit.

If you search ebay etc., you can find some good deals. Depends on what you want to spend and how big of a name parts you want

You're not going to swap the engine yourself? Figure paying ~$800 or so to get the engine swapped.

Personally, I'd drop that $800 on tools and learn something
I don't have a garage. Can't exactly swap a motor in the parking lot of my apartment complex

Shortblock from Becks Racing was $4,000.00
new Opti (95 upgrade)
Hooker longtubes
cam
coil
Canton oil pan
Gaskets
New valve springs

Labor was $1,000.00

Of course I had to rebuild the tranny the following week too for more $$$

quote]is combination motorsports 383 street stroker http://www.cmotorsports.com/lt1shortblocks.htm a good deal?

They are using the Eagle rotating assembly in some of their engines, and the 4 bolt splayed $4295 one is not that bad of a deal. It sounds about right for the money. I do not know the company though. I built a similiar motor using that rotating assembly, 4 bolt splayed, CC cam and it cost around the same, so it is not a bad deal if their machine work is top notch.

6k for a standard 355 rebuild? Did you have someone install this for you or what? That's a crazy price for no more than a 355.

Thanks a lot guys. You've made me total everything up. I just realised I'm paying more for my motor than my car. (9C1 Caprice, $4,000) I'm in it for $5,279 just on motor (383 forged eagle kit including ported aluminum heads w/ springs valves.)and I still need the following; Cam, Roller Rockers, Flexplate, Oil Pump, Main studs and Opti. I still needs Gears and a converter (and a trans when this one gets blown the f*ck up.) I've been saving using eBay and this site for non-wear items (Throttle body, oil pan, timing cover, etc...) and I'll be building it myself after it's out of the machine shop to save $$ too.

Is there a "Peformance Anonymous" group like they have for alcohlics and Gamblers? Or do they figure will just turn into alcoholics after we've spent so much on our cars and get us that way?

I tried to go cold turkey once but next thing you know I was back at the dragstrip. It is a vicious cycle.
