How much did your 355 or 383 cost you?
I will be doing one of the two shortly and want to get an idea of the cost.
I will be going with all forged parts & splayed mains, balanced & blueprinted, P&P LT1 heads, etc etc. My goal is 11s NA & 10s on a 150 shot.
So how much should it cost me to have the motor built, my stock motor yanked & the new motor installed?
Obviously, you guys can't give me an exact cost. I am just looking for ballpark figures.
Also, would you say it would be cheaper to buy the parts I can and just have the shop assemble everything or let the shop get all the parts and whatnot?

I spent total right around $6000 for my 355....all forged, Lt4 heads, cam, etc. Runs like hell. If i had it to do over, I'd have gone with a bigger cam, ported the stock heads and intake, but oh well. Built and installed myself. GOod luck. Any questions, just PM me.
would have been $8000 had i not been a moron and got such a small converter and had racenet sent me the correct rocker studs and camshaft
thats inculding machine work, shipping, a few "wrong" parts, heads, trans build up and 2 pretty seats up front
here is my price breakdown
i've spent a lot more since then. I new top end (heads, cam pushrods, rockers, springs, ect), vigi converter, LS1 brakes to come, cage to come, new paint coming.... :::sigh:::
edit:
also when i started out i bought the wrong size flex plate, wrong oil pump (x2- but not my fault) so factor all that crap in there

$500 balancing?!? WTF? Why?!?
I thought that was just a natural part of owning a Camaro?

I refuse to be some 25 yr old living at home with a car that was cool 10 years ago and a white trash girlfriend that wears too much makeup and tight clothes even though she is 20lbs overwieght.
well the balancing also incuded honing, hot tanking it, main bearings and checking everything for flatness.
he cleaned all the threads and installed cam bearings too. Basically everything but boring, the motor was bored already.

Well, it looks like you're ready to drop some serious cash. My shop is giving me good prices on machining, and the other misc stuff. I could have bought my SCAT rotating assembly for $809 from a guy I know who's a dealer, but I payed $982 through the machine stop instead. One reason being if anything isn't correct, *I* don't eat the shipping charges. Plus, it gives him a little kick-back on profit.
If you search ebay etc., you can find some good deals. Depends on what you want to spend and how big of a name parts you want
You're not going to swap the engine yourself? Figure paying ~$800 or so to get the engine swapped.
Personally, I'd drop that $800 on tools and learn something

Ahhhh OK! Round these parts we call that "machine work" not "balancing"
