How many quarts of oil?

How many quarts of oil does an LT1 use? I thought it was 5??? or even 4.5??? However I was reading an LS1 thread and those guys were like 6...that seems like a lot of oil? or is my LT1 6 and I just don't pay attention?

Here is what the owner's manuals actually say:

1993
Camaro/Firebird 4.5

1994
Camaro/Firebird 5.0

1995
Camaro 4.5, Firebird 5.0

1996
Camaro 4.5, Firebird 5.0

1997
Camaro/Firebird 5.0

This is with filter change if the manual mentions it.

Just fill it to the full mark on your particular dipstick.

Most people seem to regard the differences as misprints, but a possibility might be cars with or without oil coolers. That really does not explain why the manual says what it does, though. <shrug>

Some cars came equipped with oil coolers? Any quick way to check for that?

my car, well, my old car , didn't have a oil cooler (i don't think anyways , ? )... but it took EXACTLY 5.5 quarts to put it at the full line.

just put in 5 and you'll be fine...

It would have KC4 on the RPO sticker and a few extra parts.
