~10000 miles with the GM847 cam and CC987 springs which aren't sufficient for the cam to begin with

So if you do need to replace valvetrain parts later after a cam install, is the head typically still in good shape? So it's just valvetrain parts that need replacing?

If that's all there is to it, I will feel much more comfortable.

If you don't mind me asking, what springs and rockers are you using, and what made you choose those particular springs?

That's the cam I'm most likely going with. I've seen so much good feedback and data on it. I am concerned about wear from the XE grind on the valvetrain, but it sounds like it's not a huge issue so far.

The springs I have are the CC 987's.130 lbs on close 320 lbs open.Stock lifters,CC pro mag 1.6:1 RR,stock push rods as well.I bought these springs before the cam.I believe CC recomends the next one down in pressure for it,its only 10 lbs difference.I figure it is less likely to float the valves.

O.k. Thanks.

What is the next size down? 986's?

Glad it's working out for you.

What are the disadvantages to running stronger springs? Less power because it's harder to push the spring? More wear on the parts due to higher force on the rockers, pushrods and lifters?

Yes,the 986's are recommended.I believe the lifters, rockers and push rods would be the weak links.(use pro mags btw)I saw a post by Rich Krause explain that a stiffer spring take more force to compress, but you get it back when it decompresses.Kinda makes sense that the spring pushes the cam lobe around on the downside.I am sure there is a point where it hurts.Hope that explains it for you.

Yeah, it hurts when there's so much spring pressure that you bend a pushrod or tear up a lifter.
