Question How many miles on your cam?

Wondering how many miles you all have on your cam, and wether you've had to replace any valvetrain parts since the cam install.

I'm curious about durability after a cam install.

Less than 1k miles, and I have to replace the shortblock!!! Just kidding, it wasn't the cams fault.

Durability shouldn't be affected too much, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's going to be dependent more on driving style.

I agree my friend put a huge cam in his formula and he has driven fifteen thousand miles and then sold it and it is still running fine!

Good to hear.

Did any of you have to readjust your rockers every once in a while, or did they stay put once you adjusted them.

About 90,000 miles on my HOT cam and all aftermarket valvetrain parts. Runs good still. Did a little tune-up on it last weekend and found 2 plugs loose (actually wobbling a little DOH!) a wire burnt, and what looked to be some arcing from the factory coil wire. I believe the coil wire had 109k miles on it and I know the plugs and wires had at least 70k miles on them. I kinda got behind on my maintenance with a bigger scope than oil changing. whoops

Thumbs up

60k+ on the cam in the sig. Only thing I replaced during that time period was the oil, filter. Oh and I changed the plugs once. Had to replace a couple header gaskets after I first installed the heads/cam because "Dead Soft" aluminum gasket are a complete waste of money.

Now I'm changing the valvesprings etc...

That's great. One of the reasons I was asking this was because I'm curious about the durability of the XE grinds. Looks like they are safe if you have 60k miles on the springs and rockers. I'm only looking at the XE218/224

97RedSS,
What is a GTP-6 cam?

I got 78K on the stock cam.

I just ordered my 224/236 from Combination. There's a GP going on right now if you're interested.

I got about 38k miles on a mild billet cam and oem lifters before it began to go flat (lobes and roller on lifters were gauled and made noise). I never fully determined the cause.

Higher spring pressures on a performance engine can cause the cam and valve train's life to be shorter than with oem hardware.
