Re: how loud is your valvetrain??

The Comp rockers tend to be a little louder than the aluminums from the other companies, to a degree it is the price you pay for the strength. A trained ear or even just one listening for something will always hear roller rockers. Oil selection can affect valvetrain noise and it isn't just a thicker is quieter thing either haven't nailed it down but it appears to be something in some oils additive packages rather than viscosity.

If I listen, I can tell mine are there. But I wouldn't go out of the way to say they are really "noisy."

I have also heard the Comp Rs vs OEM Comp lifters and in the SAME motor the Rs were probably twice as loud... take that for what its worth. I even set them myself. 1/16 turn preloud on the Rs and 1/4 on the OEM just as they are supposed to be.

Re: how loud is your valvetrain??

well, mine do sound like a sewing machine, but I've got a bit of a clack from the passenger side. i wonder if one lifter is stuck a bit, or if a couple get hung up a bit in the lifter bore when setting them. they were a slim fit into the lifter bore, but nothing thats not doable. with as little as preload as there is, I guess it's possible to have one hung up a little. i have cheap 10w30 in there right now for motor break in. it's not an off brand, but it's the 1.59 stuff. i'm switching to royal purple after the break in (soon). I'm going to drive on it a few days. if there's any metalic noise, it can't be any more than a couple thousandths play. the noise is noticeable, but nothing sounds close to broken.

And it only took what 3 weeks for the R's to start blowing up being set at 1/16.

the new comp r's are hit or miss with those clips. heat treating problems or whatever. usualy, if they are bad clips, they will go out soon after installing. from what i've been told, if they have not broken in 3000 miles, they are good to go. when i checked, all the clips were there, so i don't know what to think. the car runs great and smooth. usualy a broken lifter can give you valve float or poor operation. i don't see that issue with mine. knock on wood

If this new style R lifters are weak, why comp cam do not try to fix this problem? My engine is almost ready with R lifters and a Rev Kit, but I'm worry about it because of these bad posts about R lifters. . .

Re: how loud is your valvetrain??

I had myy Comp R's on my stock bottom end/head/cam combo for 3K miles, and on the 396 for another 4K miles, and I have found 1 on the drivers side that has a clip missing. I will get to the passenger side this week, and we will see what we find there. I will be ordering a set of Morels or Cranes this week, Im not taking a chance with these R's

Yeah Morel lifters are the best ,but you can not use hydra rev kit when you choose to go with Morels.. If I have a problem with my R lifters,I will change my springs and will get set of beehives and will get comp OEM lifters (850-16) (less spring mass > no lifter problem) with hydra rev kit.. This will be the best thing I think..

Re: how loud is your valvetrain??

As said before. Comp Rs are about twice as loud as stock replacements. I just swapped mine out. No amount of adjusting really fixed the problem. Your motor will sound like a loud sewing machine running NSA rockers with guideplates. When you start hearing a CLACK it's time to readjust though.

I had 1 comp R blow up after about 15k, while most of the others blew up earlier. So they can go at any time. They are pure junk. I swapped back in OEM lifters and they are holding together and are nice and quiet.

Re: how loud is your valvetrain??

If you put a piece of wood or a stethescope, or anything to listen to the valvetrain, on top of the valve covers you will probably notice they are all doing fine. They are louder, as I went from Crane to Comp r's, and I adjusted them per instructions. Seems kinda loose to adjust to that spec, but it runs fine. Also, what size cam do you have? Headers? Allot of things can make the motor sound louder as they are compounding the noise.

Re: how loud is your valvetrain??

I have forged internal pistons and rods, long tube headers and the comp pro mag rr's. My engine is frickin loud man! . I had my RR's reset by a 2nd tuner. They are a bit better noise wise but still clack a bit. They do make lateral movement side to side so this could be the noise and if you have headers they amplify the sound too
