how loud is your valvetrain??
how loud is your valvetrain??
i have pro mag 1.6 NSA with guideplates and moly 7.150 pushrods. i've ajudted them over and over again and can't seem to get them quiet on the comp r's. yes, the preload is right. i got it making a lighter ticking noise one time. i tried again and it got louder. i was wondering if it is just supposed to be that way o what. they were all adjusted and preloaded right. the comp r's are good and the clips are still together. i'd also like the think that the pushrods are a hair too short, but when compared to stock (7.20"), the 7.150" made a better wear pattern closer to the center of the valve. i hate to put 7.20's back in since i have a milled heads and a decked block.

Re: how loud is your valvetrain??
The valve train will make a slight noise when adjusted properly. If you think it's a little to loud then it's not right. In my case I had to have Speed Inc. adj. mine to make it right. Setting it at zero lash is not going to be easy to do the first time, if you have not done it before.
Re: how loud is your valvetrain??
My valve train is noisy. Every one else that I know who has had an LT-1 F-body has had a noisy valve train with roller rockers also. My valve train is more noisy than before the engine rebuild.

Driving next to a wall or another car... oh boy do they chatter (GM 1.6 RR).
As long as they are not "clacking"...
Re: how loud is your valvetrain??
when i pulled the rockers off, i checked the pushrods as well. everything checked out ok. i also peeked through the pushrod area into the tops of the lifters. they all apeared to have the clips in tact. the clacking is not "****, i broke something" loud. the clack also seems to get better when u give it gas. it apears to only be clicking and clacking at idle. one the drivers side is fairly quiet, but there's something on the passenger side that is slightly louder. I had gmpp 1.6 SA rockers before this and i don't remember them being loud at all.

Re: how loud is your valvetrain??
as i stated before, the lifters already have 3k miles on them from a previous motor, and all the clips are stil in tact. if they are damaged, it is something that is not visible. i doubt they are though, as the clacking changes every time we adjust the rockers. i guess it's just a matter of fine tuning the rockers.
Re: how loud is your valvetrain??
I would take another look at those lifters. I just recently had one lifter (I run Comp R's) lose its retainer. I am now looking at either Cranes or stock replacements. I had the same problem where I couldnt get the adjustment right on one rocker, and now I know why.

Re: how loud is your valvetrain??
the lfiters already had miles on them so they should be good. i doubt running the car at idle (with preload correct) would make it loose a clip. it's already had 6500 rpm runs, dyno runs and 3k miles on them to break....i doubt they would now. the clacking is not very loud at all. like i said earlier, it doesn't run or sound like a broken lifter. it runs very strong.

Good luck.
