how long are platinums lasting?

When I pulled mine after 20K miles of daily driving, I found that seven of them had lost the platinum "pucks" that are stuck to the underside of the electrode. I decided to switch to NGK TR55s since I don't feel comfortable about having little chunks of platinum bouncing around in my combustion chambers.
