Pilot Bushing....take a look***PICS***

Pilot Bushing Pics

I just removed my old one(used the grease trick, worked great). I cleaned it, noticed it looked like the center hole was larger. Grabbed my new one to compare. They are 4mm difference. So Im thinking I got the wrong part from Summit. Then I thought I should check the old one on the input shaft, and there lied the problem. The old one fit all loose, it doesnt even look like it would have been making contact with the input shaft. Any thoughts opinions? What problems could that have been causing if any?

From: Brockton, Ma,
If it's any help, I ran my car for 20k miles without a pilot bushing. I didn't know it was missing until I replaced the clutch.

It's hard to tell from the photo's but are you sure it was a bushing?

It looks like my pilot bearing after I removed it.
All that was left after I finally got it out was the outer shell which is considerably larger than a bushing.

I busted the bearing retainer and removed the needles (on purpose) to gain working access to remove the shell.

From what I've heard, most if not all LT1s came with a bearing.

Like Tommyz said above. My bearing inner race turned to dust after my clutch puck broke. I has to grind the back of the core down before I could hydalically force it out. The outer race looked like what you have in your pic. BTW you have the correct bushing
from lakewood. Use a large dowel or piece of scrap wood to drive it in so as not to mushroom the end with a hammer.

Well my pilot bushing was badly worn like yours and it blew a spring out of my clutch disc because if it. As far as I'm concerned, everytime you do a clutch, change that bushing!
