How long do I have before the opti's shot?

The other day I drove through a puddle of water and my car started to buck and misfire causeing the ses light to come on. I know it had to be the opti because the puddle of water was fairly big judging by the splash of water. Unfortunatly, it was unavoidable since I was on the freeway and it was pouring like I've never seen. The good thing I guess is since I had to drive an hour to get home, by the time I got there the car was running fine. My question is, how long will it last now that it got wet? I'm sure that it's life has been shortened. The opti only had like 13,000 miles on it and it is the vented type. Let me know what you guys think although I'm starting to save for a delteq system now for the inevitable. Thanks

That would be really hard to predict. Might not even have been the opti. Water on the coil or a little on the MAF could do similar things.

Re: How long do I have before the opti's shot?

Same thign happened to me last night, it was pouring ont he way home and i HAD to drive through a road with about 8 inches of water in it...i took it at about 5mph which should have been find but had cars coming the other way at like 20mpg creating huge waves of water that were liek another 6-8 inches high and this was like 1 mile from home....car inevitably started to sputter all over the place. I just got this new engine running not even a week ago...i'll be damned if i'm taking the opti off. Right now it's sitting in the drive hopefully drying off (fingers crossed). Non-vented optis suck even more than vented ones. I'm getting tired of having to borrow my friends v-6 mustang to get to work

Well if the SES light came on, just scan it and see what made it throw the code.

My original opti on my Z lasted 125,000 miles, the opti on my T/A is original and at 109,000 miles and still ticking.
