How high (RPMs) can you take a stock LT1?

Right now, I'm trapping 105mph off spray. On a 100 or 150 shot, it will surely want to shift into OD (108ish). I want to leave it in third and run it out. Nitrous is set to shut off at 5700 RPMs, and to trap ~115, I will have to take it to around 6000 RPMs, and 6200 for ~119.

Will this be safe on a stock LT1? I don't think I will have to go over 6000 since it won't be spraying that high. I want to do this for now until I get bigger tires.

I was under the impression that you should be able to do atleast 125mph in third with the stock limiter. Do you have gears? You probably shouldn't take it much past 6k with stock valvesprings, but if you were to have good valvesprings I don't see why you couldn't pull it to 6200. My revlimiter is set at 6200 with my boltons.

If your taking it to over 6k I would replace valvesprings but also replace retainers/locks w/ LT4 they are stronger and you whsouldnt use stock retainers/locks w/ better springs.

It has to do with converter slippage. I have an aftermarket converter.

6000 should be no problem at all if the engine is at least in 1/2 way decent condition... If you do run out of gear you could always consider using a taller tire...

Yeah I want 28" tires....but I have about 2,000 miles on these Nitto's, so they're pretty much new

My converter doesn't lock at WOT...some people say it should lock at 95mph stock, others say it never locks at WOT. I never feel it lock and there's never a difference in RPMs

Unfortunately Nittos last longer than any other drag radial

On the hose ya may have to drop back to a 3.55 or 3.42. As fast as it accelerates on hose it get's there quick. Ya should be able to shift at 66-6800 and let it go in 3rd. It will probably will pull through on 28"tall's.
Make sure ya got good oil and it is thick enough as to hold good pressure all the way through and not fall at half track(when it get's hot) and ya are running 20-25lbs out the back door.
