How is driveability with the Crane 227 cam on the street?

I would like to know how the driveability is with the Crane 227 cam. Does it have a lot of cam surge, and is it a good cam for an everyday driver on the street with a good tune. Also, what stall converter would be recommended for a A4 car with this cam? I would also like to know if it has good vacuum for power brakes. Does it make good power and torque, compared to the Hot Cam. Thanks, everybody

It's wonderful for the street. Mine will only surge on a hot start when I'm
driving really slow, and only for a very little bit. It's as close to stock as
it gets. I have not measured vacuum, but I can next time I run the car.
I have no idea regarding stall. The cam has great off idle torque with the
manual so I would imagine you could get by fine with a stock stall if you
have 3:42s. I also have no idea how it stacks up to a hot cam.

Check out posts by speed_demon24 for lots of info regarding this cam.
He ran very strong with it and probably regrets swapping it out for the
GM 846 (222/230).

Right now I do, We'll see after the new valve springs go in with a new tune. I definatly lost lowend and throttle response with this cam. The 227 drove like stock for me, I never got any cam surge unless I was under 1000 RPM's which I was never at anyway. The thing I loved about it was the torque it made at any RPM. Hopefully the 846 will pull like a **** on the topend to make up for it. It's still very driveable and I don't get any cam surge over 1500 with it though, and still has plenty of torque for the street. If anything, it might be better on street tires since it doesn't have brutal low end like the 227.

Its a very tame cam and shouldn't have any surge at all.
