How do you remove/replace rocker studs?

I've got my engine halfway torn apart, and I'm swapping in a hotcam.

I bought ARP 3/8 rocker studs. What is the best way to pull the stock studs out?

Yeah, but how? Do you put a double nut on them or something?

No, just get a deep-well socket and unscrew them.

The ARP studs that I'll be installing have a hex at the bottom, so I can screw them in with a deepwell socket.

The stockers don't have that. They screw directly into the head with no base hex.

Are you sure? These are stock 1994 LT1 heads?

THey are stock iron LT1 impala heads, according to the casting #. I guess I should have said that earlier.

Oh, those may not be screw-in studs. If not, I have seen stud pullers you can buy. But, you would have to have the heads machined for screw-in studs.

Those aren't screw-in studs, they're press-fit. Only way you're changing those is by pulling the heads and machining them.

Sounds like it may be time for a set of aluminum heads.

it had them on when I bought the car. Plus, I'm told they flow better than alum heads.

because I didn't want to buy new rockers, and I'm not installing a big enough cam for 7/16 studs.

that blows. I guess I'll send back the studs.
