how do you guys feel about eagle ?

how do you guys feel about eagle ?

im currently building a stroked lt1 383 most likely, but i have been told by a good friend not to use eagle because their stuff that is already balanced has to be rebalanced, what do you guys think ?

ahhh. I am not so sure that eagle even sells stuff ballanced.. either way. your going to want to either have a 3rd party balance it (buying a ballanced stroker kit, where you get a balance card) or gettin it done once you piece everything together. You will hear people say that a product is junk and another say its the best. Eagle is no diffrent. People say the tolerences are not as tight on eagle products, but if you do your homework and check everything you have nohting to worry about. I think eagle is a great bang for buck budget part. I personally use a eage crank and eagle rods in my 383.

You can order it balanced or non-balanced. Documented issues thus far w/ Eagle include:
undersized crank snout so the crank hub almost slides on freely
Oversized pilot hole so an oversized bushing/bearing must be ordered to compensate. Eagle is aware of the problem and will offer a free bushing/bearing with proof of purchase.
Oversized flywheel locating ring on the crank which means a flywheel/flexplate would have to be reamed in order to fit properly.
I'm sure this isn't the case with all Eagle cranks, but there have been several with these problems including mine.
Also the rods demand a lot of clearancing. I've heard of people even needing to clearance blocks with a stock 3.48 stroke.

It has been stated the QC is done in China as well so tolerances are pretty sloppy. I suggest going with Compstar. Parts made in China, however the QC is allegedly done here in the States.

I have the eagle kit in my 383 stroker and I've had it over 9 years, even had to convert my one piece seal to a SBC two piece seal back in the day as Eagle didn't offer a two piece rear main crank for the LT-1 back in 99. However, my builder did order the balanced crank but check it anyway and had to tweak it a little, also mine has run strong for over 9 years and I am very pleased with Eagle's quality and I don't have the issues with the crank hub as mine is a very tight fit. I have Eagle H-beams and a stock crank. I did have to clearance the block some for the rods. They didn't hit, but were just a little closer than I was comfortable with. Other than that I am very happy with the quality and cost of the Eagle rods. I would have bought a crank, but didn't have the money at the time.

me too. i am in the process of putting a 383 in my car that has eagle crank and i beam rods. i had no fitment issues at all with my stuff. the block only had to be clearanced at the bottom of the cylinder walls, didn't have to touch the oil pan rails, or clearance the rods for the cam (using a low .600 lift on regular basecircle). and if i remember correctly most of the problems with their stuff happened a while ago, so they might have cracked down on QC since then.
