How to clean EGR, and will it last?

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on cleaning the EGR- I know where it is so I can pull it off, should I just use some carb cleaner on it or something? Ive heard stories of this causing problems with the seals so should I just replace the whole thing? Also Im guessing I need to put some sealant on before I put it back on? What kind? Or is there a gasket?

Thanks

Do whatever you need to do to clean the valve off and make sure that it moves freely in and out. You can also scrape any carbon out of the holes on the back of the manifold. You might need to use a mirror to see the back of the manifold. There is a gasket that goes on it.

Thanks, so there is nothing against using a chemical cleaner, ie carb cleaner? Also Im guessing this gasket isnt that significant, should I just pick any old one up at a parts store?

Why not just buy a new one? They are so cheap. It's like cleaning a PCV Valve, why do it when a new one costs so little?
