How can I find out which gears I have?

Ok, I have been tryin' to figure out what gears I have in my 93 Z. It is a A4, but I thought that read someone where on here, that if I can shift into first gear that it was 3.23's is this correct? Because I can shift into first gear, there is no stopper stopping it from going into first gear. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for all who reply.

If your console shows a spot for first gear, you've got 3.23s, if it starts at second gear, it's 2.73s. Also check your glovebox for the codes, if you see GU2 it's 2.73s, if you see GU5 it's 3.23s.

Thanks I do appreciate it. I do have a first gear on my console and I can shift it into 1st gear, I will check my codes in the glove box. Thanks again.

only for sure way is to jack the car up and turn the rear wheel and watch how many times the driveshaft turns. put the car in neutral first of course.

if it turns a little over 4 then you have 4.10/4.11, turns almost 3 times, you have 2.73s, etc

Ok, I just check the codes in the glove box and in the codes was a GU5, so is that 3.23's? Or should I jack the car up and check how many times the drive shaft turns? Thanks again

Well, I am the second owner of the car, I have known this car since it was new and I know that the gears have not been changed from the orginal owner. I can check to see how many times the drive shaft turns, but would I be safe to say that they are indeed 3.23's, if I know for shore that they haven't been changed? I'm also wanting to put in 3.73's, oh and how do I tell if it is a 3 series carrier or 2 series carrier? Again thanks I do appreciate the help!

I do not need to jack the car up.

Next time you are under the car you can check it, but there is really no reason to crawl under there if you are just curious.

It's a pretty safe bet that you have 3.32's
