cant 100psi cause damage to the rod and main bearings?

like if you have a nick or something in the bearing surface?

...just thinking out loud

No but you don't need that much and it shouldn't be that high, tells me something is not right.

Re: how bad is high oil pressure

It will go down after a few miles on the oil and when its hot. It was only about 120 degrees at this time. There's nothing wrong with the motor causing high oil pressure, just new stuff. We also have some STP oil treatment in it right now which is really thick stuff. Before we rebuilt this engine and had it bored and all the oil pressure at idle would get down to 5-7 psi sometimes. I'm alot happier with this then I was at 5 psi! lol...

D.M.F. - You've never answered Dave's question.... Have you verified the oil pressure reading using a reliable mechanical gauge?.

Stock pump (don't see any mods in your signature) should relieve pressure at 60psi. No reason is should go to the levels you are seeing.

A hundred psi will cut a groove all the way around the bearing and make it look like it belongs there.
It will be right were the oil hole is in the crank. For it not to do it the oil hole would have to have a very big chamfer ground in it

I saw this on a NASCAR late model years ago as I had helped in the rush to get it to the track and they were only going to run it that way that night. After 6 weeks or so they decided to fix the 100psi and tore it down and the grooves were there, nothing was hurt and the engine was still running strong so the bearings were replaced and the pump fixed and they ran the rest of the season.

sorry... no i havent checked it with a reliable gauge... also my fuel gauge goes way past the full mark.. so mabye it could be sum faulty gauges (or atleast my fuel one)

This is what happens.. you start it up and it rises right up to 70.. the plays around form 80 down to 65 around idle.. but avg is 70

Well if ya'll got 100psi there is a problem in there. Something is going to wear out and eat up the motor, I guess we will just wait and see what happens. I'd go to a lighter oil and take the STP crap out of it as well. That goes for both the guys with the 70psi and the 100psi
