it starts at 80 and goes up or it starts at 40-60 and goes up to 80 at high rpm?

Mine has about 60-80 on my new engine with about 5k miles on it. I run 5-w30 non synthetic. I would rather prefer more oil pressure instead of less oil pressure.

More is not always a good thing, it could mean resistance or blockage somewhere in the oil
passages, which could lead to a lack of oil in critical places.

Wow, what kind of oil are you running?
And has it been doing this even after an oil/filter change?
Does it drop after you run for a bit, or does it go higher?

Re: how bad is high oil pressure

James, this is true... However I am using the white spring with a melling pump. I would expect more oil pressure with my specific setup. Most turbo setup's run around 100psi.... I dont think 80 is really all that high if you entended for a higher psi setup. If I was normally at 20psi and all of a sudden I went to 80psi then I would agree with your theory.

Either way, we need more info on your setup to get ya on the right track.

Re: how bad is high oil pressure

here is a question,

has the oil pressre been verified with a mechanical guage, or just the one in the cluster?

WHATS THE DAM OIL??????????

This is why when I build a motor I test run the pump and set the bleed spring pressure to a set level so no matter what I have a max PSI that the motor will see all the time, hot cold whatever and then use the bearing clearances to fix set it from there. FWIW you don't need 80psi

60 psi is good. 80 continuously isn't a great thing. especially if you don't have a high pressure pump. other than losing a bit of power, it's not a terrible thing though, unless blockage is present

Re: how bad is high oil pressure

SStroker thats exactly right. Thats how I had mine done. Let the clearances decide the oil pressure. My machine shop suggested I stick with non synthetic for better oil pressure as well. I havent had any issues with the engine build.... This engine has been nothing but a dream.

Re: how bad is high oil pressure

Just my car motor back together tonight and we just cahnge the oil Castrol GTX 10w-40. I idle at about 60psi and at 6k RPM I pegged my Autometer Oil Pressure gauge which stops at 100psi...

Re: how bad is high oil pressure

Dam boss you need to drop that oil weigth down to 5w-30 or 0w-20 or something cause that puppy is TIGHT if you have 100psi in there.
